In Memory of Bernard Calvert

Bernard Calvert was a Life Patron of the YPC and a lover of all styles of music – I believe he used to ‘tread the boards’ on the pier shows down in Portsmouth and Plymouth.

He was an avid collector of memorabilia and after his death two months ago, Norman Hazell (former Mayor of Wakefield MDC, and an associate of Bernard within the Royal Society of St. George) was asked to sort out the remnants of his estate. Amongst other things he found a presentation box of two coins which had been earmarked ‘for presentation to the Yorkshire Philharmonic Choir’.

The coins are a replica of a one crown piece from the era of Queen Elizabeth 1st and a one crown piece from our current Queen’s era.

Norman contacted Bernard’s daughter who still lives in Plymouth and asked permission to make the presentation to which she gladly agreed, at the same time sending her apologies for not being there to see it happen.

We are saddened by the loss of someone who so generously supported the YPC.

The coins were received on behalf of the choir by past chairman Richard Haigh.
