Faure, Rutter and A Little Extra on offer at 24 June Concert.

For those attending the final concert of our 2016/17 season, you will be getting just a little extra. In addition to the ever popular and beautiful Requiem by Faure, the YPC will also feature his exquisite Cantique de Jean Racine. In the first half along with John Rutter's unique Mass of the Children we will also feature 3 of his short anthems, based on well known words.

All the music on the evening could be labelled 'on the lighter side' however that would belie the musicality demanded and the challenges contained within the different works. All the music is strongly melodic, lyrical and accessible to all ages.

We 'welcome home' both our soloists, Soprano, Christina Jones and Baritone, James Jenkins. Both started their musical careers in Wakefield and in Christina's case she was a valued member of the YPC soprano section for several years. We look forward to sharing again with them and the bringing their excellently developed vocal talents to these works.

Mass of the Children as it's name suggests has within it a challenging part of children's choir. Rising to that challenge will be the Silcoates School Children's Choir, who will be joining the YPC for the very first time as concert guests. John Rutter's superb mixing of vocal textures between the choirs and soloists as well as the solo passages for the children's voices will ensure all involved are allowed to excel while giving the listener a wonderful listening experience.

The main works will be accompanied by the excellent Amici Ensemble with Tom Moore on the Cathedral organ accompanying the incidental pieces.

It will be an ideal end to what we hope will be a lovely and warm summer's day. Come and enjoy a relaxing and evening of beautiful music in the superb surroundings of Wakefield Cathedral.

The final 'little extra' is that if you choose to come to the concert, you will also be supporting and honouring the ongoing work in our community of Wakefield Hospice. Representatives of the Hospice will be in attendance and there will be opportunity to hear and read of the Hospice's work as well as to contribute to it.

We hope to see you there. Tickets are still available from the box office on this website. There may also be admission 'at the door'.
