It is with great sadness and regret that we announce the death, after a relatively short illness, of our former chairman, Richard Haigh.

A Service, celebrating Richard's life will be held in Wakefield Cathedral at 3.00pm on Tuesday 23rd September, to which everyone who knew him is invited. The service will include tributes and music, for which he had a particular fondness, sung by both the YPC and Wakefield Cathedral Choir.

Richard was chairman of the choir for 15 years, stepping down in 2012. During his chairmanship the Yorkshire Philharmonic Choir developed musically and administratively to one of the foremost amateur choirs in the country.

Richard was selfless in the giving of himself to this choir and to music in general. He was also a representative for the RSCM and Making Music and in those capacities assisted a large number of choral and other musical organisations as well as sharing his experience and knowledge of running a musical organisation in local and national forums.

He was a wonderful man, greatly loved and respected and will be missed by so many.

Our thoughts and prayers are with His wife Chris and the whole family at this difficult time.
