YPC Choral Bursary Recipients Make Lifelong Friends and Musical Memories

YPC annually sponsors the Margaret Markland Choral Bursary, made possible by the specific funding from the Liz and Terry Bramall Foundation for which we are most grateful. Each year the opportunity is offered to music students at Leeds Conservatoire to apply for one of the three bursary places on offer to sing with YPC.

This season we welcomed Jade, Lydia and Sophie who have all made a great contribution within the choir and enjoyed extending their choral experience in weekly rehearsals under the expert guidance of our inspirational musical director, Thom Meredith. No doubt the highlights will have been performing in the three large scale concerts in the magnificent setting of Wakefield Cathedral accompanied by the Amici Orchestra.

Our bursary students this season have participated in a diverse programme of choral music, with works by Ola Gjeilo, Paul Carr, Fauré and Mozart, along with a varied Christmas concert in which each student gave solo performances. They have certainly experienced the best of choral music and made some lifelong friends at YPC.

As our students now prepare for their finals at Leeds Conservatoire, we send them our best wishes for the future.

In April the cycle starts again when we will be auditioning music students at Leeds Conservatoire who are hoping to become our bursary students in the new 2024/25 season.
