The Yorkshire Philharmonic Choir’s performance of Handel’s Messiah on 28th November 2015, at 7.00pm in Dewsbury Town Hall will feature, as one of its soloists, Ben Thapa, one of the members of the popular band ‘G4’
G4 were runners up in the very first series of ‘The ‘X’ factor’ in 2004, featuring a unique mix of popular and classical songs. Together with Il Divo they went on to become one of the most popular ‘boy bands’, featuring cross over music. Their second album, ‘G4 and friends’, featured guest artists including Lesley Garrett, Robin Gibb and Sir Cliff Richard.
To the joy of their many fans, G4 have just announced a UK reunion tour and the release of a new Christmas Album. So, amongst all this activity, it is a great coup for the YPC to have secured Ben as their tenor soloist in Handel’s great masterpiece. It's also a great chance to hear him without all the glitz of a G4 tour concert (and a fraction of the price!)
Of course Ben will be joined by 3 other superb soloists ‘Bethany Seymour (soprano), Hannah Mason (Mezzo) and Andrew Mahon (Bass), all wonderfully talented and, although young, very experienced performers of this and other great choral works.
The superb Amici Ensemble, will once again provide the full orchestral accompaniment, which will feature the much sort after talents of David Francis on Harpsichord.
This arrangement of fine musicians under the direction of Andrew Padmore is sure to bring a freshness, depth and energy to this much loved work.
It is over 5 years since the YPC performed in Dewsbury and we are really looking forward to our return. We always enjoyed performing in the elegant surroundings of Dewsbury Town Hall and we have great memories of performances past, but with our excellent soloists including Ben Thapa, this upcoming Messiah in Dewsbury, should be something really special. It’s an ideal way to start you preparations for the Christmas period.
