Not a trick, just a treat (sorry, it was Halloween when this piece was written) – a night of Elgar f

Tomorrow night at 7.00 in Wakefield Cathedral, the audience will be treated to a wonderful concert of the music of Elgar.

The Amici Ensemble will open the evening with the ever-popular Pomp and Circumstance March No 4, followed by the lovely, poignant choral work The Spirit of England, so very appropriate in this season of remembrance.

After the interval, the mood will change somewhat with Elgar’s Music Makers. This is a hard piece to describe in just a few words – it contains so many moods and emotions. Rest assured however, it is a fabulous, stirring, exciting and wonderfully lyrical, though challenging piece.

However, despite the challenges of this work, with soloists Gaynor Keeble (mezzo) and Ben Thapa (tenor) and the Yorkshire Philharmonic Choir, under the baton on Andrew Padmore it will prove to be a real treat (no trick!)
