Passionate, Inspiring, Emotive - Bach is back soon!

How will you start your Easter Celebrations this year? Why not join us on Palm Sunday Evening, 29th March, 7.30pm in Wakefield Cathedral, to start them in the best possible way.

The 'St John Passion' by J.S. Bach is one of the greatest works in the choral repertoire. It focuses entirely on the events of Holy Week as mainly told by the words of St John's gospel. From the powerful opening chorus to the hope expressed in the final chorale, performers and audience alike are drawn into the drama and deep meaning of the event being described.

A 'Passion' is very similar to a 'Concert Version of an Opera', based on a Christian theme. The sung narration is given to the tenor soloist (Gwilym Bowen) as The Evangelist, with other soloists, (Katy Kelly (Soprano), Edward Button (Alto), Phil. Wilcox and Henry Hawksworth (Basses)), singing the words of all other characters. The choir sings various parts including the mob, the Jewish Authorities, The Roman Soldiers, as well as providing the thoughtful interpretative thread through beautiful chorales.

The entire work will be sung in English and accompanied by the renowned Amici Ensemble, in full orchestra format.

If you want to start Holy Week in a memorable way, or you just love great choral music performed to the highest standard in superb surroundings, accept this invitation and come and share the experience with us.

Tickets are £16 (seniors £15) and £13 (seniors £12), under 16's free. Available from the online shop on this website.
